Casino developer cuts $250K payments to Shinnecock Nation

A gaming developer has cut $250,000 monthly payments to the Shinnecock Nation of New York, The Southampton Press reports.

Gateway Casino Resorts said it won't restore the payments until the tribe resolves a leadership dispute. Lance Gumbs and Gordell Wright were removed from the tribe's board of trustees but the Bureau of Indian Affairs continues to recognize them as legitimate representatives.

The tribe gained federal recognition in October 2010 and wants to open three casinos on Long Island. Part of the dispute stems from allegations that Gumbs and Wright were negotiating a deal without Gateway's involvement.
