Litigation slows Tohono O'odham Nation off-reservation casino

The Tohono O'odham Nation announced plans for an off-reservation casino in January 2009, sparking litigation that continues to slow the project.

The tribe has won a string of decisions in the federal and state courts. Yet the tribe is no closer to breaking ground on the West Valley Resort due to opposition from the state, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and the Gila River Indian Community.

Judge David Campbell heard from all four parties last week. He promised a decision soon, The Arizona Republic reported, but that's likely to spawn another appeal.
