The Tohono O'odham Nation of Arizona says further arguments aren't needed in a lawsuit that challenges the tribe's proposed off-reservation casino. On May 7, Judge David Campbell dismissed all but one claim in the lawsuit filed by the state of Arizona, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and the Gila River Indian Community. He ruled that the Tohono O'odham Nation's Class III gaming compact did not bar a casino in the metro Phoenix area. Additional briefs on the one remaining claim were submitted Wednesday, the Associated Press reports. The state wants Campbell to call a trial to resolve claims that the tribe made public promises not to open a casino in the Phoenix area. The tribe, on the other hand, says further proceedings aren't needed. The tribe wants Campbell to make a decision on its motion for summary judgement. Get the Story:
