Mashantucket Tribe confident of casino bid in Massachusetts

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut is moving forward with plans for a commercial casino in eastern Massachusetts.

The tribe plans a $1 billion, 660,000 square-foot casino in the town of Milford. The site is about 35 miles from Boston, the most populous city in the state, but the design will fit in with the suburban surroundings, a top executive said.

“I think the whole design is the ‘wow’ factor,” Foxwoods Resort Casino CEO Scott Butera told The Milford Daily News. “This is elegant and beautiful and something that has all kinds of natural beauty.”

The tribe has to negotiate an agreement with the town and win approval from local voters as part of the process. Two other groups are also bidding for the casino license in eastern Massachusetts.
