City rejects change to fund connected to Pokagon Band casino

A non-profit that receives gaming revenues from the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians in Michigan apparently won't be changing the way it distributes funds.

The Pokagon Fund has received $16 million from the tribe since 2007. But the city council in New Buffalo voted unanimously against a proposal to change the way grants are distributed to local governments.

The city is one of the three governing partners for the Pokagon Fund so its rejection apparently means the proposal is dead for now. Chairman Matt Wesaw said the tribal council had not yet considered the changes.

The Pokagon Fund is separate from the local revenue sharing board that distributes gaming revenues pursuant to the tribe's Class III compact.
