Tohono O'odham Nation, city discuss off-reservation casino bid

Leaders from the Tohono O'odham Nation and the city of Glendale, Arizona, met to discuss the tribe's plans for an off-reservation casino.

The city has been fighting the tribe in federal court. But after spending $3.3 million and losing a series of decisions, leaders are considering ways to work with the tribe.

“Truly all they have asked us for is to sit down and discuss it and how do you say no to that?” city council member Gary Sherwood told The Glendale Star. “It’s a shame it’s gone on this far.”

The tribe has acquired 134 acres near Glendale for the proposed West Valley Resort. Other communities support the project.
