Tribes meet to discuss Menominee Nation off-reservation casino

Leaders of four Wisconsin tribes met on Wednesday to discuss the Menominee Nation off-reservation casino.

The meeting was arranged by Gov. Scott Walker (R). He has said he won't approve the casino unless all 11 tribes in the state come to a "consensus."

The Forest County Potawatomi Tribe, the Ho-Chunk Nation and the Oneida Nation oppose the project. Menominee Chairman Craig Corn said there might be a way to address their concerns but acknowledged a tough battle.

"We got to hear from the other tribes and we look forward to getting to the finishing line and getting them to sign off," Corn told 620 WTMJ News.

Ho-Chunk President Jon Greendeer, however, doesn't think there's room for compromise. "Nothing has changed, nothing will change," he told WTMJ . "We are firm in our position."

The three tribes are worried about the impact of the Menominee casino on their operations. They also say the Menominees are stepping into their ancestral territory.
