Mashantucket Tribe ends gaming agreement with MGM Resorts

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut has ended a gaming agreement with MGM Resorts International.

The tribe licensed the MGM name as part of a $700 million expansion at Foxwoods Resort Casino that debuted in 2008. The name will be going away after a six-month transition period.

"When we looked at the master plan for the resort and our current opportunities, it was obvious that the iconic brand of Foxwoods needed to be at the forefront of our transformation," Foxwoods President and CEO Scott Butera said in a statement.

Separately, MGM is pursuing a commercial casino license in neighboring Massachusetts. The Pequots are also pursuing a license, but in a different region of the state.
