Ho-Chunk Nation remains confident of off-reservation casino

The Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin remains confident that its off-reservation casino won't be rejected by the state.

The tribe is pursuing a casino in Beloit under the two-part determination provisions of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. The law gives veto authority to the state governor.

But the tribe's Class III gaming compact authorizes a fourth casino. So that could affect the process if the Bureau of Indian Affairs ever approves the project.

“Per this agreement we’d have to look at what the state is obligated to do," Gov. Scott Walker (R) told The Beloit Daily News.

Walker is considering whether to approve an off-reservation casino for the Menominee Nation.
