Narragansett Tribe continues suit over non-Indian gaming

The Narragansett Tribe can pursue a lawsuit that challenges the expansion of non-Indian gaming, the Rhode Island Supreme Court ruled on Friday.

The tribe argues that a 2012 ballot referendum that authorized table games at a non-Indian slot machine facility violates the state constitution. The Supreme Court didn't rule on the merits but said the claim should be heard.

The tribe's own plans for gaming have been repeatedly denied by voters even as non-Indian options have expanded.
