New Mexico House passes Navajo Nation Class III gaming deal

The New Mexico House voted 36-30 on Tuesday to approve a Class III gaming compact for the Navajo Nation.

The deal authorizes the tribe to open three more Class III facilities in the next 15 years. Other tribes say more Navajo casinos will hurt their business.

The deal will now go to the state Senate. A vote must occur before the end of the legislative session on Thursday.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs must also approve the compact.
