Lawmakers drop efforts to expand non-Indian gaming in Florida

Efforts to expand non-Indian gaming in Florida appear to be dead for the year.

Sen. Garrett Richter (R), the chairman of the Senate Gaming Committee, said it was impossible to find consensus on a proposed expansion. And Rep. Rob Schenck (R), the chairman of the House Select Committee on Gaming, previously said he would hold off until the Seminole Tribe and Gov. Rick Scott (R) finalize negotiations for a Class III gaming compact.

The compact expires in 2015. A tribal gaming executive previously indicated a new deal might be reached before the end of the year.
