The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut might drop out of the running for a commercial casino in New York.

The tribe submitted a $1 million application fee to bid on a license for the Catskills region. Plans call for a $400 million Foxwoods Catskills Resort Casino on 1,200 acres.

But intense competition for the region has made it difficult for the tribe to secure financing, The Albany Times-Union reported. A spokesperson said options were being considered.

The tribe is also pursuing a commercial casino in Massachusetts. However, a host agreement has not been announced for the original site in Fall River amid rumors that the tribe is looking at a new site in New Bedford.

"We have not, in any way, shape or form, said that Fall River is unsuitable," a spokesperson told the Associated Press. At the same time, there was no comment on New Bedford.
