Sandia Pueblo in New Mexico is undertaking the first major expansion of its casino since 2005.

The tribe is adding a multi-level parking garage, a new spa, new gaming areas and an event space and golf pavilion to the Sandia Resort & Casino near Albuquerque. Construction began earlier this year and the work should be completed in early 2015.

“We were hoping that the New Mexico’s economy would have climbed out. But New Mexicans still want a vacation and still want to have fun. The council’s philosophy now is to provide diversity at one location,” Gov. Stuart Paisano told Albuquerque Business First.

The casino opened in 2001. It sees the largest slot machine wins of any tribal facility in the state, according to revenue sharing reports from the New Mexico Gaming Control Board.
