The National Labor Relations Board has once again reaffirmed its jurisdiction over the casino owned by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan. Tribes aren't mentioned anywhere in the National Labor Relations Act. But the NLRB on October 27 adopted a ruling that said the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort falls under the law due to its "commercial"nature. As a result, the NLRB ordered the tribe to allow casino employees to engage in union organizing activity. The tribe was also ordered to reinstate Susan Lewis, an employee who was suspended for trying to organize.
