Navajo president signs bill to acquire land near gaming facility

The Navajo Nation will be acquiring land near one of its gaming facilities.

President Ben Shelly signed into law a bill that authorizes the purchase of 67.39 acres near the Northern Edge Navajo Casino in New Mexico. The tribe has been leasing a portion of the site for a casino billboard.

"We support economic development efforts by the nation and if asked, will assist with its development," Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise CEO Derrick Watchman told The Farmington Daily Times.

The tribe agreed to buy the land for $980,000 plus closing costs and expenses.
