Jicarilla Apache Nation announces new Class III gaming compact

The Jicarilla Apache Nation has reached a new Class III gaming compact with the state of New Mexico.

The deal requires the tribe to share between 2 percent and 8.5 percent of its gaming revenues with the state. It would run for another 22 years.

The compact must go before state lawmakers before it is sent to the Bureau of Indian Affairs for review. The current deal expires in June.

The Navajo Nation has a compact that also expires in June. Tribal leaders are hoping to renew it after running into running into controversy last year due to concerns about competition with existing Indian gaming facilities.
