The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut announced a new leader for its gaming enterprise.

Robert J. “Bobby” Soper will start serving as president of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority on March 30. He is the first tribal member to hold the position.

Additionally, another tribal member will be promoted. Ray Pineault will serve as president and general manager of Mohegan Sun, a position currently held by Soper.

“The tribal council and the Mohegan people are extremely proud of the announcements we are making today for several reasons,” Chairman Kevin “Red Eagle” Brown said in a press release. “Not only are we proud to present the best executive management team in the business, one that will ensure that we remain best in class as we continue to grow our business, we are doubly proud to say that the new team positions tribal members in two critical roles.”

Soper has worked for the tribe since 1997. He ran the Mohegan Sun Pocono, the tribe's commercial facility in Pennsylvania, from 2004 to 2012, when he returned to Connecticut.

Soper succeeds Mitchell Etess, who worked for the tribe for 20 years before announcing his retirement.
