The White Earth Nation of Minnesota will be building a new casino.

Construction on the facility is scheduled to begin next month, with an opening eyed for next spring, the tribe said on its website. Additional details will be announced tomorrow.

"After extensive research, we found that we have an impressive customer base visiting Mahnomen from this region and a large population in the surrounding areas who desire a first-class gaming entertainment experience," Bill Marsh, the general manager of the Shooting Star Casino, said in a press release quoted by Forum News Service. "We believe the best way to accommodate these guests is to expand our existing presence by building a new, state-of-the-art facility in their beautiful city, spurring both significant economic and financial opportunities."

The new facility will be located near Ebro, near the northeastern border of the reservation. The existing Shooting Star, which first opened in a temporary building in 1991 and moved to the current site in 1992, is located in Mahnomen, on the western side of the reservation.
