A teenage girl who was the subject of a botched Amber Alert was found safely at the casino owned by the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation of North Dakota, Valley News Live reports.

The 15-year-old apparently was never in danger because she was with her father at the 4 Bears Casino and Lodge in New Town. But the tribal police department said she might have been abducted by an Indian man and gave the North Dakota Highway Patrol the name and a photo of the purported suspect.

But that man died nearly a year ago, Valley News Live discovered. Apparently there was a mix-up in names.

"It's an unfortunate thing and I feel bad for the family of the deceased but that was the information we were provided. We have no way of cross checking that when time is of the essence," Lt. Tom Iverson of the North Dakota Highway Patrol told Valley News Live.
