Tunica-Biloxi Tribe enters gaming agreement with Mohegan Tribe

The Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana has entered into a gaming partnership with the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut.

The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority will provide gaming, hospitality and entertainment consulting services to the Paragon Casino Resort, according to news reports. The agreement starts this Saturday.

“In the state of Louisiana, we are known for our food, fun and optimum level of service that is unmatched anywhere else in the country,” Tunica-Biloxi Chairman Joey P. Barbry said ina statement, The Avoyelles Journal reported. “With the help of the MTGA, we will be able to reinforce this concept, exceed expectations of Louisiana as a whole and showcase Marksville as a premier gaming and entertainment destination.”

The Mohegan Tribe is stepping in after the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe chose not to renew management contract with Exceptional Gaming. That deal had been approved by the National Indian Gaming Commission in July 2009.

The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority is going to "manage" the Paragon Casino Resort, according to a statement by its President and CEO Robert J. Soper, but that doesn't necessarily mean the agreement is a management contract under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
