The
Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians is making progress on its
replacement gaming facility in southern California.
The tribe held a topping-off ceremony at the fast-rising
Soboba Casino on Monday. The final beam, bearing the signatures of tribal citizens, employees and construction workers, rests on top of the six-story hotel, The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported.
“This is one of the significant milestones of the whole construction project,” administrator Michael Castello said, the paper reported. “We’re trying to landmark all of these special milestones. It’s special to be able to have the tribal members sign their names on something that will be up for decades.”
The tribe broke ground in February. The 450,000 square-foot property is on track to open in the summer of 2018.
The facility will be located on a portion of a 410-acre property that was placed in trust by the
Bureau of Indian Affairs in June 2015. The land-into-trust process took about
seven years to complete.
The project includes a 200-room hotel, a pool, two restaurants, a food court and sports bar, a 15,000 square-foot banquet and meeting facility for conferences and special events. The casino itself will have 2,000 slot machines and 28 table games.
The facility is adjacent to
The Country Club at Soboba Springs, the tribe's golf resort.
