Eastern Cherokees consider plans for new retail space at flagship casino

A retail area is in the works at the casino owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

Renderings released to The Cherokee One Feather, the tribe's newspaper, show a mix of retail, dining and entertainment options at the Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort. Chief Richard G. Sneed told the paper that the space would attract more people to the facility in North Carolina and keep them there.

"There’s going to be nothing like this in the southeast. This is going to set us apart," Sneed told the paper.

The tribe is already in the process of 100,000 square-feet of convention center space, a hotel tower with up to 800 rooms and a new parking deck to the casino.

The tribe operates a smaller facility, the Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino and Hotel, in another part of the reservation.
