Starting them young? School apologizes for Northern Arapaho casino swag

Students at a public school in Wyoming maybe learned a little too much about the Northern Arapaho Tribe as a cultural exchange also brought gaming into the classroom.

According to The Riverton Ranger, elementary school students in Fremont County took home playing cards and cocktail glasses bearing the name of the tribe's Wind River Hotel and Casino. Some parents got upset so officials had to apologize at a public meeting last week, the paper reported.

The casino, which offers the Northern Arapaho Experience to share its culture, had sent storytellers to the school for its Native American Day event in April. The facility also brought a wide range of swag but it was the playing cards and glasses that seemed to have drawn the most concern.

The casino has long been active in the community, with one event bringing hundreds of youth from the county to the gaming property to receive free backpacks and school supplies. There also was a Slot for Tots promotion resulting in gifts for 800 children in foster care.
