Saginaw Chippewa Tribe shares $2.91 million in gaming revenues with community

The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe shared $2.91 million in gaming revenues with local communities in Michigan.

Of the amount, $2.16 million went to governmental and educational programs in Isabella County. The funds come from the operation of the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mount Pleasant.

Another $747,478 went to governmental and educational programs in Arenac County and in northern Bay County. The money comes from the operation of the Saganing Eagles Landing Casino in Standish.

“The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe has the unique and wonderful opportunity to help in alleviating needs felt by our local governments and schools through 2% distributions," Chief Ronald Ekdahl said in a press release. "The benefit this funding brings to our communities is felt by so many here in Isabella, Northern Bay and Arenac counties. We continue to collaborate and communicate with our local partners to make our communities a better place to live.”

A ceremony for the Soaring Eagle distributions took place on May 30. Another one for the Saganing Eagles distributions took place on May 31.

As part of its Class III gaming compact, the tribe shares 2 percent of electronic gaming revenues with local communities twice a year. More than $250 million has been distributed since 1994.
