FBI PR: Agents address violent crime on reservations

The FBI has a story on its website about a woman on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation who was the victim of domestic violence.

According to the story, the woman was reluctant to testify against her boyfriend. “Will he go to jail if I do?” she asked special agent Doug Klein, who works the Northern Cheyenne and Crow reservations.

The woman already missed two grand jury appointments. On one occasion, she failed to turn up after running into the parents of her boyfriend.

“The point is, if you don’t show up for the federal grand jury, the judge will swear out an arrest warrant and I’ll have no choice. I will have to arrest you,” Klein told the woman.

The woman finally agrees to testify but asks for gas money to get to Billings, about 100 miles away. Klein gave her the contact information for a victim assistance specialist.
