Operation Morning Star helps Lakota families

Richard Boyden used to be a radio talk show host in Kansas City, Missouri, but now he works full-time to help Lakota families in North and South Dakota.

Boyden started Operation Morning Star to help some of the poorest people in the U.S. "You have all these charities going to Africa and Mexico," he tells The Washington Times, "but people forget about what's happening in their own back yard."

With his Adopt a Lakota Family program, Boyden connects people directly with a family. That way the donations -- whether it's food, supplies or clothes -- go directly to the people who need it most.

Randy Stires, the owner of a stove and fireplace company, is one of those who has helped out. He donated a van and 23 wood-burning stoves after seeing pictures of the conditions on reservations.
