Coquille Tribe to host national women's conference

The Coquille Tribe of Oregon is hosting the first 2007 Heart of the American Indian Women's Conference in April.

The conference takes place April 25-27 at the tribe's casino. The theme is "Native American Women Leaders -- Encouraging Future Generations to step forward into Leadership Roles."

Wilma Mankiller, the first woman to lead the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, will deliver the keynote. Members of Oregon tribes will present lectures and cultural demonstrations. Singer Pura Fe will perform.
