The Santa Ysabel Band of Diegueño Indians signed a partnership with California State University San Marcos, the first of its kind for the college.
The tribe and CSUSM will work to increase the number of tribal members in college. They will develop college preparation and recruiting programs and retention programs.
About 1 percent of the student body at CSUSM is Native American. That amounts to 84 students.
