Major project to translate Bible into Cheyenne

Members of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe of Montana have been working more than 30 years to translate the Bible into their language.

Starting in the 1960s, Ted Risingsun and others began the project. They've translated five books of the Bible and most of the other books.

Ma'heonemoxe'-estoo'o -- as the Bible is known in Cheyenne -- is now available soft- and hard-bound editions and on cassette tapes and CDs. Believers say it makes more sense to read the book in the Cheyenne language.
