O'odham man named to state board of education

Jacob Moore, a member of the Tohono O'odham Nation, has been appointed to the Arizona State Board of Education.

Moore worked in congressional and legislative affairs for the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. He currently serves as tribal relations coordinator for the Arizona State University Office of Public Affairs.

"I've got a lot to learn, but this is important. The future of Arizona depends on educating our young people," Moore tells ASU News of his new job.

Moore was nominated by Gov. Janet Napolitano (D), who has appointed over 200 Native Americans to state boards and commissions. Moore will be the first Native on the state board in nearly 20 years, according to ASU.
