NPR: Tribal management at bison range in Montana

National Public Radio is running a report on the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and their controversial management contract at the National Bison Range in Montana.

Chairman James Steele said U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service employees undermined the tribe. He said they never wanted to work with the tribe, which led to a report that said the tribe wasn't living up to its duties.

The contract has been suspended amid several investigations. But top Interior Department officials have said they want to negotiate a new agreement.
