Muscogee woman runs for mayor in Spokane

Mary Verner, a Muscogee (Creek) woman, is running for mayor of Spokane, Washington.

Verner, 50, currently sits on the city council. She also serves as executive director for the Upper Columbia United Tribes

Verner's father was a member of the Muscogee Nation of Oklahoma. In a June 2006 interview with The Spokesman Review, she said she isn't enrolled.

Verne, originally from Georgia, moved to Washington in 1992 to work for the Spokane Tribe.
