Indian woman officer in Montana National Guard

Amber Gopher, a member of the Blackfeet Nation, is the first Indian woman officer in the Montana Air National Guard.

Gopher, a second lieutenant, joined the Guard in 2001 and quickly rose through the ranks. She comes from a family of veterans.

Gopher was sworn in by Carla Lott, also Blackfeet, who was the first Indian woman officer in the Montana Army National Guard. Both women were honored by the Blackfeet Nation at a ceremony on the reservation yesterday.
