Poarch Creek woman crowned Miss Indian World

Megan Young, a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians in Alabama, was recently crowned Miss Indian World.

Young was one of 22 contestants for the pageant, which was held during the Gathering of Nations powwow in Albuquerque, New Mexico, last month. She is the first Poarch Creek woman to win the competition.

. "We are pleased to have her represent Indian communities throughout the nation but especially PCI," Chairman Buford L. Rolin said at a reception for Young, The Atmore Advance reported.

Young said she will represent her tribe and Native people with pride. She plans to travel extensively while she works towards a degree in human resource management.
