Fort Berthold woman charged with murdering son

A woman from the Fort Berthold Reservation in North Dakota was released to the custody of her mother pending trial for the murder of her son.

Dana Deegan, 34, was charged with first-degree murder. She allegedly allowed her infant son to die shortly after his birth in 1998 or 1999.

The boy's body was found in November 1999. Only recently did tribal investigators and the FBI connect Deegan to the death.

Deegan works for the early childhood program on the reservation. She is expected to return to work during her release.
