Ramon Arthur Roubideaux, Rosebud lawyer, dies

Ramon Arthur Roubideaux, a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe who was the first Indian lawyer in private practice in South Dakota, died Tuesday. He was 82.

Roubideaux attended law school at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., on the advice of the late congressman Francis Case. He later became assistant attorney general in South Dakota and was elected state attorney for Stanley County seven times in a row.

Roubideaux, whose Indian name was "Brave Eagle," retired from law in 2002 and moved to Tucson, Arizona, where he died.
