Blackfeet Nation to dedicate medicine wheel

The Blackfeet Nation of Montana will dedicate and bless a site that will be used to create a medicine wheel.

The medicine wheel is a healing symbol believed to have originated among the Blackfeet. Most are found in Canada but none have been found on the Blackfeet Reservation.

Organizers of the project hope it will encourage sobriety and healthy lifestyles. Vehicle crashes kill and injure more young people on the reservation than any other cause. Alcohol is a factor in most cases, officials said.

The dedication comes on the first day of the North American Indian Day, the tribe's annual powwow.
