Manitoba First Nation sues to reopen 1875 treaty

The Black River First Nation of Manitoba has sued the Canadian government in order to reopen Treaty Five, which was signed in 1875.

The First Nation wants more land out of the deal. Each of the 33 bands that signed the treaty was limited to 64 hectares for every family of five.

"It's not right the amount of land we were given and they expect us to live there basically forever," Chief Sheldon Kent told CBC News.

Other treaties signed in Manitoba provided more land.
