The Senate Indian Affairs Committee held a hearing on Thursday on draft discussion legislation to reauthorize the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act.

Tribal witnesses said NAHASDA has helped them improve housing conditions on reservations. But they said they needed more money to fully implement the law.

Some witnesses also had specific objections to provisions in the draft discussion bill, which has not been introduced. Roger Boyd, a Department of Housing and Urban Development official, would not say whether the Bush administration supports or opposes any of the language.
