Brothers arrested after stealing tribal artifacts

Two brothers have been arrested after federal authorities said they stole thousands of dollars of historic artifacts from Nebraska and Colorado.

Maxwell Garihan and Gary Paul Garihan sold some of the Navajo rugs they stole from a National Historic Site in Arizona. They tried to sell more items before they were caught.

The brothers allegedly broke into the Hubbell Trading Post in Ganado, Arizona, and took $80,000 in Navajo rugs. They also allegedly stole 18th century Plains items from the Agate Fossil Beds Visitor Center in Harrison, Nebraska.

Including damage, the theft cost more than $120,000, a special agent for the National Park Service said.
