Tesuque Pueblo wants site of old village protected

A recently unearthed village in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is being claimed by Tesuque Pueblo, whose leaders want the site protected.

Human remains, housing structures and nearly 22,000 artifacts have been found at the village. Tesuque Gov. Charlie Dorame said the tribe has long known about the site and has asked the state Historic Preservation Division to ensure its ancestors aren't disturbed.

The site was uncovered as part of a Santa Fe County construction project. A nearby village was excavated in the 1930s.
