Former Onondaga teacher convicted of two counts

A former teacher at the school on the Onondaga Nation of New York was convicted on two counts of sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

Albert Scerbo was acquitted of most of the charges against him. He had been accused of abusing or endangering 17 girls though some of the charges were dropped prior to trial.

Scerbo's conviction of first-degree sexual abuse, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, means he has to register as a sex offender and he won't be able to teach again. He also faces neglect charges in family court for his own children.

Scerbo will be sentenced October 10. He faces up to seven years for the sexual abuse conviction.
