Fake tribe selling car tags in South Carolina

South Carolina authorities are investigating the sale of car tags by a person claiming to be a part of the Little Shell Pembina band of North America.

The Pembina group is not state or federally recognized and has been linked to immigration, insurance and other scams across the nation. The latest involves the sale of car tags to people in South Carolina.

The Pembina group is not affiliated with the Little Shell Chippewa Tribe of Montana, whose legitimacy is embraced by other tribes.
