Editorial: Community mourns death of Navajo student

"Our community is heavy with grief and pain from the death of University of Arizona freshman Mia Henderson, 18. The bright young woman who wanted a medical career helping others was killed at Graham-Greenlee Residence Hall Wednesday morning. Her roommate has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder.

As we watched the details of the sad situation unfold, we could only imagine the anguish felt by Henderson's family, parents and friends.

While the full circumstances are still under investigation, we know that one beautiful young woman with the potential to make a significant difference is gone. And the life of Galareka Harrison, 18, the young woman who is facing murder charges, will never be the same.

Both Henderson and Harrison were from the Navajo Nation, the Star reported Thursday. According to the Star, the two had been placed together in a dormitory program designed to help American Indian students from small towns be successful on a campus with about 37,000 students."
