Mother and daughter plead not guilty for hate crime

A mother and daughter in Idaho pleaded not guilty to the racially motivating beating of a 13-year-old Native girl.

Jill R. Grant, 40, and Ashley N. Grant, 21, are charged with felony malicious harassment.. They are accused of beating the girl while yelling "white pride" and "white power."

The incident took place in Lewiston on September 12. The Native girl reportedly approached a group of people who were talking about "white pride" and "white power" and asked about "Native pride."

Four other people -- including Grant's son -- have been charged in connection with the crime. All are under the age of 22, including a 16-year-old boy.
