Deadline nears on Shakopee land-into-trust

Officials in Minnesota are meeting behind closed doors this week to discuss a potential appeal of a trust land acquisition for the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community.

Scott County and the city of Shakopee have until October 29 to appeal the land-into-trust decision. Both have opposed the acquisition in the past.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs agreed to place 752 acres in trust. The tribe plans to use the land for housing and other purposes.
