Wilson Skeet, Navajo Code Talker, dies at 83

Wilson Skeet, a Navajo Coder Talker and former vice chairman of the Navajo Nation, died on Wednesday. He was 83.

Skeet was born on the Navajo Nation in eastern New Mexico. The U.S. Army forced his family to leave their home to make way for one of the largest munitions depot.

The mistreatment didn't stop Skeet from serving his country, though. He served as a Code Talker and fought at Iwo Jima during World War II.

Skeet later served on the Navajo Nation Council in the 1950s and 1960s and he served two terms as Navajo vice chairman in the 1970s under then-chairman Peter MacDonald, another Code Talker.
