Oglala Sioux Tribe's council requires drug tests

Some members of the Oglala Sioux Tribe's council have been suspended after refusing to take drug tests.

The council voted 10-3 to require the tests. Floyd Brings Plenty introduced the resolution after a colleague, Dan Garnier, was indicted on federal drug charges. Garnier has since been suspended.

Several council members, however, say they shouldn't have to take the tests. As many as six of them were suspended as a result.

"If we want our employees to be drug free and take a hair-follicle test, why should we be exempt?" council member Kathy Janis told The Rapid City Journal.
