Abramoff associate to be sentenced for scandal

Italia Federici, a former associate of convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff, is being sentenced today for her role in the scandal.

Federici, the former head of the Council of Republicans for Environmental Advocacy, pleaded guilty to tax evasion and obstructing the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. She acted as a conduit between Abramoff, his tribal clients and J. Steven Griles, the former deputy secretary at the Interior Department.

Federici is not expected to receive prison time, the Associated Press reported. Griles is serving a 10-month sentence for his role in the scandal.

Federici was a close associate of former Interior secretary Gale Norton, who was not implicated in the scandal.
